Boys & Girls Clubs Names Sienkawitz "Youth of the Year”

Brianne Sienkawitz of Bloomingburg has been chosen as the 2010 "Youth of the Year” by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Town of Wallkill, Pine Bush & Sullivan County. Sienkawitz, who is a Senior at Pine Bush High School, was selected by her local Boys & Girls Clubs because she embodies the type of positive, caring people the organization seeks to develop through its afterschool and summer programming.

Being named Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive. The title recognizes outstanding contributions to a member’s family, school, community and Boys & Girls Club, as well as personal challenges and obstacles overcome.

"Brianne has had to overcome many obstacles and has had more responsibilities thrust upon her than most of her peers. She has handled it all with her warm and caring personality, and a true passion for helping others,” said Town of Wallkill Unit Director John Kane.

As the Youth of the Year for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Town of Wallkill and Pine Bush, Sienkawitz is one of hundreds of local youth across the country recognized by Boys & Girls Clubs of America for her sound character, leadership skills and willingness to give back to the community, and will compete with other Youth of the Year candidates from across New York State for the title of "New York State Youth of the Year” and a $1,000 scholarship from the Reader’s Digest Foundation.

Executive Director Alexis Eggleton said, "Brianne has gone from a club member in the Pine Bush elementary and middle school programs to a vital part of our staff at the Circleville Middle School. We are very proud of the decisions Brianne has made and look forward to the great things this young lady has to offer.”

If Brianne wins at the state competition, s he will compete for the title of North East Regional Youth of the Year and an additional $10,000 scholarship. The five regional winners will advance to Washington, D.C. in September 2010 to compete for the title of BGCA’s National Youth of the Year. The National Youth of the Year receives an additional $15,000 college scholarship and is installed by the President in an Oval Office ceremony.
